About us

biography

Getting stronger with each new iteration of the lineup, Shoebox Money has their sights set on world domination and shows no signs of slowing down. With theory driven music, high energy shows, and introspective lyrics about feeling lost as young adults, these indie rockers looking to bring back blues with an alternative punk twists.

Technically existing since 2015, the band found their footing after a 9 month hiatus and drastic lineup change. From the spring of 2017 to the fall of 2018, the band gigged rapidly and their presence was immediately felt. The group won KJHK’s 24th annual Farmer’s Ball, was named 2nd best local band in their home town (only losing to a subsection of the University of Kansas marching band...), and played with national acts such as the Sidekick, Beach Bunny, Oddfellas, and Brody Buster throughout the midwest. This phase of the band culminated with the release of “Reason and Rhyme,” mixed, mastered, and produced by Matt Richards at Avenue Record Company.

Adding more musical firepower from the best their scene has the offer, original member Patrick Spanier paired with drummer, businessman, and audio engineer triple threat, Nico Williams formerly from Topeka’s Kangaroo Ali, and guitarist John Feess, who despite his unrivaled slide guitar agility, was not in a band previous to Shoebox. In their biggest shift to date, the group welcomes rock prodigy, Hannah Norris of Hays, Kansas as they shift to female fronted vocals. With their sights on new music, tours, and festivals, it’s slightly unclear what is in Shoebox Money’s future, but one thing is certain: it’s going to be loud, it’s going to be crazy, and you don’t want to miss it.

“The Lawrence native Band at times transported the crowd to the streets of Memphis with their bluesy vibe, yet mixed in rock and alternative sounds to create a unique and modern listening experience” Cami Koons, KJHK

“Shoebox Money Gave one of the best performance I’ve ever seen in Lawrence.” Jackson Sabol, KJHK

“When these guys play a show, they don’t just play, they throw down.” Corey Wogalter, yourculturevulture.com

Cami Koon's Tune’s @ night with w/ Shoebox Money (Mar 5, 2018)

...a unique and modern listening experience.

“The Lawrence native band at times transported the crowd to the streets of Memphis with their bluesy vibe, yet mixed in rock and alternative sounds to create a unique and modern listening experience. This sound is found in the band’s originals as well as the familiar covers of Franz Ferdinand and the Black Crowes they added to their set. If the crowd harbored any doubts concerning Shoebox Money’s versatility, influence, or skill they were eliminated after an innovative performance combining John Mayer’s “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” with Weezer’s “Say it Ain’t So.” Combining two contrasting songs and not only making it work but making it seem as though the songs were meant to go together; this is indicative of the band themselves.”
